The micro blogging site Twitter announced that It will censor things based on Geography. It is to be noted that Twitter was banned in China by the communist regime due to not censoring the prohibited keywords. Google Updates Its privacy policy

“We’re rolling out a new main privacy policy that covers the majority of our products and explains what information we collect, and how we use it in a more readable way,” said Alma Whitten, Google’s director of privacy, product and engineering.

Google has updated its privacy policy streamlining it across its various platforms like Google plus, YouTube, Gmail, Google search etc. The new policy will be rolled out on 1^st March 2012.

India bureaucrats are upset with the pictures of Manhmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi in compromising positions on social networking sites.

On Friday, the federal government told a New Delhi court that there was sufficient material to proceed against 21 social networking sites for offenses of “promoting enmity between classes and causing prejudice to national integration,” according to the Press Trust of India news agency.

Convictions could bring fines and up to five year imprisonment but the prosecutors have not accused any executive from these companies.

In December, Telecommunication minister Kabil Sibbal told that he had been talking to representatives of major internet companies like Google and Facebook to come up with a voluntary mechanism to keep offensive material off the internet. The companies told they could do nothing about this.

This whole drama is very unfortunate for the Indian economy. India is a major player in the field on software and internet. Rulings like this could only project India as a mentally backward nation in the world which is looking forward to India with great prospects.

India government should not behave like this, although it’s a court ruling but then also no court in the world is allowed to suffocate human expression.
